Band Paper Tomorrow Playing At Common Grounds On Sunday

Local Waco Band, Paper Tomorrow, will be playing at Common Grounds on Sunday beginning at 8:30 p.m. Two of the members are current Baylor students. They will be opening for Abandon Kansas, Companion, and Stem and Leaf.
The following is an interview with band member, Tommy Mote, a freshman, Business major at Baylor, from Katy.

Lariat: How would you describe the band’s music?
TM: Our music is a mix of a lot of different things ranging from Upbeat Pop to Ambient Sounds and even some Texas Rock.

Lariat: What are your musical inspirations?

TM: Our inspiration is pulled from many different directions from our daily lives and the music that we hear. Everything from Kings of Leon to Switchfoot to Minus the Bear to even our good friends, The 71’s.

Lariat: How did the name of the band come about?
TM: Funny story actually. I was on the phone with Kyle the day before we had to fill out a Baylor Battle of the Bands application and we really needed a name so we could be in the show. So I said to him, “Kyle, it really doesn’t matter to me what the name is, as long as we have something to put on paper tomorrow.” And he responded with, “How about ‘Paper Tomorrow’.” And thus, “Paper Tomorrow” was born.

Lariat: Tell me the story of the band’s beginning.
TM: Kyle and I started learning our respective instruments in about 9th grade with the help of Keeton Coffman, (now of the 71’s) and we met Skopak and Ian through out our early high school years. We all played for our church back home in Katy, TX until we graduated high school and in October of ’08, we decided that we wanted to start writing our own songs and see how we would fare in the music scene.

Lariat: What are the long-term goals for the band’s future?
TM: Right now we are taking things one day at a time. Currently we are writing songs as often as possible and keeping only the ones we really like. We are taking every opportunity that comes up and are excited with the current rate of progress.

Lariat: Are you excited for the show on Sunday?
TM: We are very excited for the show on Sunday because we’ve all been extremely busy since Christmas and this will be our first time to perform together in Waco in 2009.

Lariat: What’s next after this show?
TM: After the show, our next project is recording a five track EP to be able to distribute at shows and to our friends who would like to be able to hear us between shows. If anyone wants to contact us, feel free to send us an email at or at We look forward to hearing from you and hopefully getting to meet you on the 29th. Stay tuned!

Come to the show at Common Grounds on Sunday, March 29th at 8:30 p.m.
